Commitment to the People of Lancaster County

I'm running for County Commissioner to bring change to local government. The County Commissioners regulate many of the services, facilities, and infrastructures used by Lancaster County residents everyday, including Lancaster Manor, Community Mental Heath, and county roads. It's time we had a person with a greater understanding of issues impacting both urban and rural residents on the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners.

 

Rural Upbringing

I was born in northeastern Nebraska town of Bloomfield. My father was a small farmer, and my mother taught First Grade at Bloomfield Elementary School. My little sister and I were raised on a quarter section. We lived on a "storybook farm" with pigs, cattle, chickens, and other livestock.

 

Professional Leadership

I began at the Lincoln Action Program as an Administrative Assistant. I quickly became an effective grant writer and was promoted to Development Director, raising millions of dollars to fund innovative anti-poverty programs helping struggling families achieve economic self-sufficiency. Presently, I serve as the City of Lincoln Grants Administrator, raising nearly $7 million over seven years. Projects I helped plan and secure funding for include: Sunken Gardens Renovation; Rose Garden Renovation; Replacement of the radio system for Lincoln Fire & Rescue; Services for Older Adults, minority-based cultural centers, Lincoln Literacy Council, Lincoln Arts Council, St. Monica's, Heartland Big Brothers & Big Sisters, Lutheran Family Service's Bridges Program, YWCA, funding for Homeland Security issues and many other projects to improve the quality of life for Lincoln citizens.

 

Community Involvement

I enjoy serving as an elected member of the Lincoln Board of Education. I've been able to advocate to ensure quality facilities for our children for many years to come.I support a quality education accessible by all children, regardless of socioeconomic background, while working to increase adequate compensation for teachers and support staff. I also serve on The Salvation Army Advisory Council, preparing for a capital campaign to expand services and support to the Clinton- Malone-Hartley neighborhoods. The Salvation Army does an excellent job addressing the needs of our community's lowest income children and families who live in core neighborhoods.
